Installer's Note

Contents

1. Introduction

This Installer's Note is essential reading for whoever is responsible for the installation of this implementation of the NAG Toolbox for MATLAB.

Your attention is drawn to the terms and conditions of the Software License Agreement (in file lic_agr.txt) regarding the use of NAG software. Any request to use this software other than on the licensed computer must be referred to NAG, as should requests for information about the availability of other implementations.

2. Implementation Provided

2.1. Applicability

This implementation is a compiled, tested, ready-to-use version of the NAG Toolbox for MATLAB that is considered suitable for use on the computer systems detailed below:

hardware: x86-32 systems and compatible
operating system: Microsoft Windows XP/Vista/7
MATLAB Version: 7.4 (R2007a), 7.5 (R2007b), 7.6 (R2008a), 7.7 (R2008b),
                      7.8 (R2009a)

The user needs to have MATLAB installed. This implementation may work with versions of MATLAB later than 7.8 (R2009a).

2.2. Post Release Information

Please check the following URL:

http://www.nag.co.uk/doc/inun/mb22/w32dcl/postrelease.html

for details of any new information related to the applicability or usage of this implementation.

3. Distribution Medium

The software is available to download from any of the NAG websites (see NAG Websites under Section 6). Upon request, the software may be distributed by CD-ROM.

3.1. File Sizes

The files sizes are given below. The actual disk space used is dependent on the hard disk allocation unit (cluster) size.
Help material 21Mb
Toolbox files 42Mb

4. Installation

If you have an earlier version of the NAG Toolbox for MATLAB already installed, we recommend that you uninstall it before installing this version.

You must have Administrator privileges to install this software.

If you have the toolbox materials on CD, insert the CD into your CD drive to display the NAG CD browser. Click on the Install Toolbox button and follow the instructions. If the CD does not autorun, run

  e:\NAG_Toolbox_Installation_Browser.exe
to run the browser, or run e:\setup.exe to run the toolbox installation directly, where e is the drive letter for your CD drive.

If you have downloaded the toolbox materials from our website, run the self-extracting executable to start the installation.

After installation, you should ensure that the software described in Section 4.1 is present and accessible.

If the help materials are correctly installed, then on starting the MATLAB Help browser you should see the entry NAG Toolbox in the Contents list.

A quick test that the software has been correctly installed is to type s07aa(0) at the MATLAB prompt to calculate tan(0). This should return the answer 0.

To test that a valid licence is available, type a00ac at the MATLAB prompt. This will return 1 if a valid licence is found, or 0 otherwise.

This software is provided with an uninstallation facility via

  Control Panel|Add or Remove Programs
on Windows XP, or via
Control Panel|Programs and Features|Uninstall or change a program
on Windows Vista or Windows 7.

Running the setup program again will allow you either to install another instance of the toolbox to a different location (e.g. under a different release of MATLAB), or to select an instance of the toolbox to uninstall by selecting the Maintain or update the instance of this application shown below option and the appropriate instance and then selecting the Remove option from the next dialog.

4.1. Installation Options

By default, MBW3222DCL is installed within the user's MATLAB installation. The help files will be placed in the subfolder help\toolbox\NAG whilst the executable files will be placed in toolbox\NAG\mex.w32.

If you choose to have your MATLAB path updated during installation, the file toolbox\local\pathdef.m will be modified. If you choose not to have your path modified then there are a number of ways in which this may be done by hand. Search for "matlab path" in the MATLAB online help system for one method, and for pointers to several others. If updating by hand then it is essential to ensure that the folder containing the help files appears in the MATLAB path after that containing the executable files. For example, if you install the toolbox under C:\MyMatlab then your MATLAB path should contain the folders:

in that order.

4.2. License Management

The use of this product is controlled by the Kusari license management system. This release uses version 2.2 of Kusari.

In order to enable the software, NAG will issue you with a license key. The license key is a simple text file containing details of the software that will be enabled. For evaluation purposes a trial license may be used. To get a trial license contact the NAG Response Centre. Before obtaining a full license you need to know the Kusari hostid of the system on which you intend to use this product and how to do this is described below.

The easiest way to request a license key is to use the GUI described in the next section. Once you have a key, the same GUI can be used to install it.

The information below covers the most common requirements. For more complex licensing situations, please contact us.

4.2.1. The GUI license key request and key installation program
The recommended way to request a license key is to use the GUI program provided. This will help you to build a standard message requesting either a trial key or a full key which can be pasted into an email to the NAG Response Centre. In the case of a full key, the message contains the Kusari hostid.

Once you have your license key, the same GUI can be used to install the key in the registry.

You can execute this GUI from

  Start|All Programs|NAG|Toolbox for MATLAB Mark 22|
Request or Install License Key for MBW3222DCL
This GUI can also be run from the installation procedure.
4.2.2. USB key licenses
Simply insert the USB key in any spare USB socket on the machine on which you wish to run this product.

5. Documentation

On-line documentation, accessible via the standard MATLAB help facilities, is bundled with this implementation. Please see Section 4.
